About Dabble

When I turned 50, I challenged myself to try 50 new things before the year was over. These were not bucket list-type events but new experiences I had never had before.

I discovered pickleball, which quickly became one of my favorite activities and is still a big part of my life today.

I also learned that throwing a bowl on a pottery wheel is much harder than it looks, and after several lopsided attempts, I decided I was perfectly happy admiring other people’s pottery instead of making my own.

These examples illustrate the reason for Dabble.

Not every new experience has to become a lifelong passion. Sometimes you discover something you’ll love forever. Other times, you simply cross it off your list and move on to the next adventure (just like my experience with foot golf:) Either way, you’ve gained a new experience and a story to tell.

As I shared my 50 Things project, people began telling me they wanted to do the same thing. They had always wanted to try new hobbies, visit new places, learn unusual skills, or simply shake up their routines. They just needed a little encouragement to get started and advice on where to try the things they had in mind.

So I kept going, often inviting friends or family members to try new things alongside me.

What began as 50 New Things at 50 eventually became a way of life. And that idea grew into Dabble.

Today, Dabble is a weekly newsletter and a book-in-process that encourages people to seek out new experiences, stay curious, and make life a little more interesting one small adventure at a time.

The Dabble newsletter was created to share ideas for sports, food, crafts, cultural experiences, or other miscellaneous things to try, as well as encouragement and motivation. I’ll also occasionally share research about why trying new experiences can enrich our lives.

My goal isn’t to help you become an expert in anything.

It’s to help you experience more of what life has to offer.

Why Subscribe?

Life has a way of settling into routines. Sometimes we all need a little nudge to keep learning and keep trying new experiences. If you subscribe, you will get “nudges” in your inbox (in the form of the newsletter) that will hopefully inspire you to try something new.

Dabble is your weekly reminder that there’s still so much to experience.

Each issue is filled with ideas, inspiration, recommendations, and practical suggestions. You’ll also become part of a community of curious people who believe life is richer when we keep exploring.

I hope every now and then you’ll read something and think:

“I’ve never done that before” or “That looks fun,” and then you’ll go do it.

Life isn’t measured only by what we accomplish - It’s also measured by what we’re willing to experience.

Sign up for Dabble today to get started. I hope you’ll join us!
