One of the original items on my 50 Things list was snowshoeing. Like cross-country skiing (which I still haven’t tried), I had never seen anyone do this. Like many of the things I hope to try, these were not common activities in Philadelphia where I grew up or the places I lived in after. I took a free online class from REI and bought a pair of snowshoes* and waited for the next snow that deep enough to try them out.
It was a lot of fun and I felt like it was a good workout. I’d probably take poles next time but since I was trying this out on a flat trail, I don’t feel like I suffered without them.
Snowshoeing is definitely something I think I would try again. Unfortunately, there haven’t been many snowy days this year and unless I drive a few hours, I’ll just have to wait.
*I didn't realize until I watched the REI video that I could have rented snowshoes from REI instead of buying them. If you decide to check out snowshoeing, I suggest you rent first.
