Pressed Flower Jars
A Double Dabble
I’ve written before about where I get dabble ideas from and one source in particular, Green Craft magazine, is great for this. This was a double dabble because it involved pressing flowers and decoupaging them onto a recycled container. I haven’t pressed flowers since I was a child, so it wasn’t necessarily a new activity but it’s easily been 45 years+, so I am counting it as something new.*
*The idea behind Dabble is trying new things
I took some petals from a bouquet I had in my house and some from a plant outside and pressed them in wax paper inside a cookbook that I weighted down with more books. I let these press for a few weeks, which, looking back, was probably not long enough.
I had two jars lying around that I decided to use, so I decided to decoupage the dried leaves onto them. As you can see, I think I went way overboard with the glue.
As with many of my dabbles, I did not follow any instructions and tried to figure this out on my own. In this case, I think directions would have helped. I’m not gonna lie - the smaller jar project is pretty ugly. (The final two projects are shown on the creation side of the top photo). I put a votive in each and lit them to see if it would help - it did not:) I will be putting both of these into the donate box because I don’t think they make the “gift cut-off.”
The Dabble Deets
What I liked about this Dabble: I didn’t have to buy anything I didn’t already have. Also, it was spread out over time.
What I didn’t like or didn’t plan for: The color changes and stiffness of the leaves I tried to press, which is why I ended up using so much glue.
Would I do it again? No.
What I will do with the results: These are headed to the donation box :)
Thanks for reading! I hope you don’t mind me sharing failed dabbles as well as the ones I plan to try again. I’d love to hear how you are dabbling this week! Please comment below.
